Our School Dog

Children can benefit educationally and emotionally, increase their understanding of responsibility and develop empathy and nurturing skills through contact with a dog. In addition to these benefits, children take great enjoyment from interaction with a dog.

Riggs, a Cocker Spaniel mix, is our school dog. Please see the files below for more information and a risk assessment.

"Hi there, just a bit about me, my name is Riggs, I am very gentle and loving - I work hard helping my human brother at home with his emotions - he has Autism and ADHD and can get worried and upset sometimes but I know how to help calm him down.  He is getting big now so I would like to see what other children I can help, especially those that are struggling with their mental health - I can put a smile on anyone's face!  I love school - I have certificates to prove it from the kennel club and my mummy is doing some work so that I will be a registered therapy dog!  I would like to help others enjoy being at school too, I also love chasing a ball, swimming, running around with my dog or human friends and family.

Dislikes – when I have to stop chasing my ball & when I am not getting constant fuss!"

Riggs will be in in school 3 days a week, based in the hub and he will be there to help students with their mental health and to learn how to care for a dog.
