Self Help & Social Support

How can I help myself?

The Mental Health charity Mind says self-care techniques and general lifestyle changes can help manage the symptoms of many mental health problems. They may also help prevent some problems from developing or getting worse. The school’s Mental Wellbeing webpages outline a variety of strategies, techniques and activities for looking after yourself that you might find helpful.

The school is taking a more resilient direction to Mental Wellbeing to promote self-help and social support to enable more of students to maintain a healthy mental lifestyle. If these work well for an individual then he/she may find they don't need any formal treatment. However, it’s important to remember that there is unlikely to be an instant solution. Recovering from a mental health problem is likely to take time, energy and work and will need the support of parents/ carers, peers as well as staff in school and other professional care.

The school’s pages on improving and maintaining your mental wellbeing have a variety of self-help and care information, suggestions and advice.
